Conservation, sustainable management and enhancement of marine biodiversity
The uses associated with coral ecosystems have an essential place in the island communities of the Indo-Pacific region. Within this axis, we are interested in fishing, aquaculture, leisure activities including ecotourism and more generally in the pressures exerted by man on this environment. It is the applied part, open to transdisciplinarity, of the research of our joint research unit.
The objectives of this axis are to provide tools to establish an integrated diagnosis of the state of health of ecosystems, to design solutions for the conservation, management and restoration of natural areas, and to evaluate governance and sustainable strategies for the exploitation and development of biological resources.
The spatial planning approach will be one of the tools used to foster a strategic vision at local, national and regional scales for maritime development around this environment. The central challenge is to maintain the integrity of the resources and natural heritage to ensure sustainability of uses and development potential.
