CORAL REEF RESILIENCE - MOOREA
PROJECT ABSTRACT
Coral reefs are declining globally, yet some reefs show a particularly high resilience capacity facing disturbances. Coral reefs around the island of Moorea, French Polynesia, are among those exceptional ecosystems, although signs of decline are becoming more noticeable through decades.
In partnership with researchers from CRIOBE (PSL-EPHE-UPVD-CNRS) and the American research program Long-Term Ecological Research (NSF-University of California), we monitor the long-term dynamics of the coral reefs around Moorea and study the ecological processes that determine their resilience capacity. Our findings shed light on how coral reefs function, their role for coastal societies that depend on them, and are source of solutions for coral reef management.
