Coral reefs are in decline and increasingly undergo the effects of environmental changes. Understanding the mechanisms regulating coral populations and the factors influencing their outcome is fundamental for identifying species vulnerable vs resistant (winners vs loosers) and anticipating reef resilience. In an original approach, the War Of Corals project uses coral competitive performances, the ability of corals to preempt ecological space on the reef through territorial warfare, as indicators of species’ ecological niches and environmental preferences, and therefore, responses to future environments.
